(Fayetteville musician Wade Ogle provides this week’s Songbook. His debut solo album “Songs From Winter” was released last year and his newest record, “Lovers & Fighters” is set for release next month.  You can check out Wade’s music at his Web page or on My Space. He said the choices he made for this Songbook reflect songs that are “personal knock-out punches … These are the bold and the brave.”)

This falls into the “do some damage” category. I can barely resist ramming my own head repeatedly into a wall even now. Are bands even remotely this intense live now? Can you picture Kanye West taking a mic out of Nick Cave’s hands? “I’m sorry Nick, I’m gonna let you finish but… (WHACK…THUD) …silence.”

I stumbled on to the Bad Seeds back when KXUA was KRFA and I was DJ’ing a show. I have suffered writer’s block and musical depression using Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan as measuring sticks for my own work. Fortunately (or not), I’ve embraced the idea of “letting it be”. I saw this era Bad Seeds (with Blixa Bargeld) live in New Orleans. It’s still the best live show I’ve ever seen.
