Walton Arts Center extends deadline for site proposals

NORTHWEST ARKANSAS (March 12, 2010) – On February 9, Walton Arts Center’s facility committee approved criteria for expansion and set a March 15 deadline for site submission proposals.  Further discussion with Chamber of Commerce officials and other leaders in the region have prompted an extension of the site submission deadline to August 2, 2010.

“Extending the deadline is the right thing to do,” says Peter Lane, President/CEO of Walton Arts Center.  “Since the site selection criteria were released, we’ve received a great deal of feedback on the process. This feedback indicates that the parties involved need more time to gather ideas and create proposals.”

Concerns about the economy and the ability to put more detailed proposals together were cited as the main barriers to the March 15 deadline.

“We are pleased that Northwest Arkansas is showing such keen interest in the expansion of the Walton Arts Center,” says Lane, “This is a very important step for the future of Walton Arts Center and the entire region. We are committed to the needs of our community. By giving everyone more time to consider their proposal, we are ensuring a fair and inclusive process.”

Site proposals should be made through the Walton Arts Center website: (www.waltonartscenter.org/new_expansion_plans)
