Boozman Cosponsors Legislation to End Federal Funding to ACORN
Washington, Sep 15 -
U.S. Representative John Boozman (AR-03) announced his support for eliminating federal funding to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) by cosponsoring the Defund ACORN Act.
“In recent weeks it has become even more evident that ACORN is not responsible with the federal funding it has received so I will work to ensure it doesn’t get any more tax dollars from hard working Americans.
The Senate has already taken steps to deny funding through an amendment in the 2010 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) bill that forbids the Department of Housing and Urban Development from granting funds to the community organization. This amendment passed 83-7.
Just last week, the U.S. Census Bureau severed its ties with ACORN. This is a move that is necessary and I am supportive of, considering the unlawful actions that have been discovered.
The mishandling of taxpayer dollars won’t be tolerated. It hasn’t gone unnoticed and I am working to make sure it doesn’t continue.”
Boozman also signed onto a letter to President Obama asking him to disclose and terminate all taxpayer funding of ACORN.
