Three Weeks In | From the Publisher’s Laptop

From the Publisher's Laptop, Opinion — By Christopher Spencer on July 1, 2009 at 8:16 AM

typewriter_1_lgTwo solid weeks behind us and an open endless horizon in front. That’s how I feel at the moment about this experiment known as Ozarks Unbound.

Obviously, I’m in a pretty good mood. I blame the coffee.

We still haven’t done a feature news story yet. That’s something we hope will be a signature of our online magazine. That’s coming soon. In the meantime, some new features launched this past week.
My co-publisher, Greg Leding, completed the latest week’s worth of Songbook entries. Ozarks Unbound writer Daeran Wang takes up the mantle this week with a fantastic sultry and bluesy tone called “Fireflies.”
I’ve started a media criticism column called “Ink By The Byte” which I hope to make into a daily post. I’ve accepted this pretty much means I’ll never get another job in the local newspaper biz. I can deal with that.
Heather Kendrick-Gerlaugh answers another delicated question with tact, humor and honesty.
We’re publishing unedited press release we receive from various sources. The reason we don’t edit them is two-fold: One, we figure they stand on their own so long as you know whose writing them so you can determine their bias; Two, we don’t have the manpower to crunch them, verify the facts, get constrasting voices and generally work them up into a proper news story. So we present them to you, the readers, unfiltered.
I’d also like to take a moment to thank those of you who mentioned us to a someone else, either in real life or digitally. It’s very much appreciated and the number of people coming to see what we are doing here is growing.
We welcome any suggestions you might have about how to make Ozarks Unbound a better news source for you. Feel free to e-mail me at cspencer@ozarksunbound.com with your thoughts.
