The Moneypit: WashCo Parking Deck looking at $2.5 million in added expense | CF
Clipped Fresh — By Christopher Spencer on February 5, 2010 at 11:55 AMParking Deck Project Remains Stalled.
COMMENT: The parking deck project, approved during Washington County Judge Jerry Hunton’s previous administration, is quickly spiraling into serious red ink as costs skyrocket.
The latest estimate by lead architect Brad Hammond, president of McGoodwin, Williams and Yates, has costs as high as $2.5 million above the original project because the core samples gave a flawed view of the ground underneath.
Now, some Quorum Court members are going back to square one – considering purchase of the neighboring Fulbright Building with its additional parking and just paving over what’s becoming an increasing burden on the county’s once-ample reserves.
Other Quorum Court members seem ready to step up and get the task accomplished, perhaps in a scaled-back fashion.
The next Quorum Court meeting will be very telling.
