Seedling announces Offshoot Film Festival’s movie lineup

Banner, News — By Christopher Spencer on September 24, 2010 at 1:55 am

The crowd was small, but the enthusiasm was contagious Thursday while the movies were announced that will be shown at the Offshoot Film Festival.

Announcements are made

The Offshoot Film Festival will be held Oct 7 to Oct 10 in downtown Fayetteville. The event is being coordinated by the Seedling Film Association, a nonprofit group dedicated to enhancing the film industry in Northwest Arkansas.

Speaking at the UArk Ballroom, members of Seedling announced an ambitious slate of movies covering every major genre.

The categories of competition are:

  • Narrative Features
  • Documentaries
  • Shorts
  • Animation
  • Student
  • Arkansas Connection.

A Weekend Pass costs $30 and provides access to all events. A $5 per movie fee can also be paid.

Passes are now on sale and can be purchased now on the website www.offshootfilmfest.com .

Ozarks Unbound is a media sponsors for the event and is offering a giveaway for six Weekend Passes. Leave a comment on this post for a chance to win.

There are several interesting films, but The Rock’n'Roll Dreams of Duncan Christopher might be the break out movie of the festival.

It is set just across the border in Tulsa, Okla. and features the awkward adventures of Duncan Christopher, the son of a troubled rock star. Duncan is an avid Dungeons and Dragons player trying to make it the world of competitive karaoke.

The writer and lead actor, Jack Roberts, is expected to present for the film to answer questions afterward.

Offshoot is the pinnacle event for Seedling Film Association. As well as screening different types of independent films, the fest will include educational opportunities with industry professionals as well as post screening Q and A with filmmakers that are in attendance.  If that’s not enough reason to attend, each night includes an Official Offshoot After Party. These parties happen at designated locations around Dickson Street and are an excellent opportunity to continue networking.

Seedling Film Association hopes to collect enough from the festival and other film related events in the future to start a grant program for local filmmakers. Seedling would like to give one grant every year to help get a project off the ground.

Until then, the goal is to keep providing quality experiences for the community around the ever inspiring and evolving art of moving pictures.

Would have been there if it wasn’t so far to travel (over 3 hours). Congrats to all the entrants that made the cut.
