Midnight Politics
It was a night of conspiracy theories, economics, presidential politics and leadership as former Mayor Rudy Giuliani spoke Sunday to students, faculty and the public at Barnhill Arena.
The speech lasted about an hour and a half and was followed by a Q and A session. Giuliani touched on topics ranging from his time in office to the September 11th attacks and the current conflict in the north African nation of Libya.
The topic of the speech was leadership, focusing on Giuliani’s time as mayor of New York, his time in the Reagan administration and his views of current politics and his belief that there is a lack of leadership and vision within the Obama administration.
He addressed the current situation in Libya and President Barack Obama’s public statements regarding the future of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.
“You don’t wait a week for the French to act,” he said after addressing Obama’s comments that Gadhafi should be out of power.
The biggest news to come out of the speech was that the former mayor is considering making another bid for the White House if there is a weak Republican field of candidates.
“If I can help by being a candidate, then that would persuade me to [run for President],” he said in response to a question about his aspirations from an audience member.
One of the more interesting moments of the evening happened as soon as the question and answer session began.
Near the back of Barnhill Arena, a female stood up and immediately started shouting questions about the collapse of World Trade Center 7, asking why Giuliani refused to investigate the building collapse.
After a lot of back and forth between the female and Giuliani, he called her a “conspiracy nut” and said that she needed to see a psychiatrist.
Police eventually intervened after Giuliani attempted to move on and the female kept shouting questions.
In response to her last interruption, he said, “I’m answering your question. You just don’t like the answer.”
Giuliani spoke briefly about economic policy and his support of the Bush tax cuts.
He also mentioned that he had spoken with Gov. Scott Walker (R – Wisconsin), telling him to not give up in his fight with unions over his attempt to limit collective bargaining rights of public workers in an attempt to balance Wisconsin’s budget.

Thanks for covering this. It appears our local print outlets were too busy. This is the only coverage I’ve seen of G indicating he might run next year. You are breaking news with this.
Thanks for posting this. Maybe I am crazy, but at least I’m not a crook.
Good to see Mr. Saylor carrying the torch and branching out – nice piece, Ryan.
Thanks, Don.
Very informative and well written piece. Great job!
Great coverage. Thanks for providing some insight into this important event.
Important event? Guliani is a hatefilled racist who is hated in NYC till this day. The man is corrupt (mistress chauffeured around at tax payer expense while his wife was enjoying the same services) no one knows how his unemployed father managed to pay all cash for his college education (he was rumored to be a mafia collector)and he had been warned about palcing his doomed emergency center in the locaiton he chose, and in fact the new e,mergency center sits in the very location Rudy refused. And you thibnk listening to this philandering hate filled man is important? No wonder Arkansas has a backwards reputation!
Your not crazy baby
