Pelosi Says She Has the Votes to Pass Health Bill

SUMMARY: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) says she has the votes to pass the House health bill, but Democratic opponents say the Speaker’s count falls somewhere between “wildly optimistic and dead wrong.”  Pelosi’s announcement comes a day after President Obama addressed the nation on prime-time television to make his case for health care reform.  The United States currently stands as the only industrialized nation that does not provide health care for its citizens.
