(Miriam Schwartz is a citizen of the world who has lived in Europe, the Middle East and Canada before settling in northwest Arkansas. She loves music, animals (especially her dog), witty banter and, somewhat guiltily, MTV’s “The Hills.” She doesn’t particularly care for rude people, Black Forest cake, the music of Tears for Fears or scary movies.)
Broken Arrow is a massively underrated album. That said, “This Town” is not especially original, or extraordinarily well executed, or lyrically revolutionary, but it IS the song that was playing when I first kissed my future husband. It’s a sweet, mellow, grungy little thing. The unexpected twang-y guitar interludes and the memories make this a desert-island contender. Bruce and I had been talking for over a year when I finally flew to California to meet him face-to-face. This song brings that entire sun-soaked, just-us weekend back. I bought this record the day I got back home.
