Mel Gibson’s drunken tirade and a tour of Lake Devil | OU’s Daily Crier for Wednesday, July 28, 2010
Banner, Daily Crier — By Christopher Spencer on July 28, 2010 at 12:17 pm
Remember when Mel Gibson was just Mad Max, a cool post-apocalyptic hero or Riggs, the borderline psychotic cop who touched the edge but never went over?
Sure, Mel’s obsession with filming The Passion of the Christ almost exclusively in Latin and Greek and his unswerving dedication to put the graphically violent depiction of Christ’s death on screen felt a little eccentric.
But audiences proved his vision by attending in record numbers.
Then, on this day in 2006, something disturbing came to the surface. Allegations that Gibson delivered a drunken, anti-Semitic rant while being pulled over by police.
Those proved to be true and Gibson got on the Mea Culpa train like so many celebrities before him.
Now, we have lengthy tapes recording him as he belittles and screams at Oksana Grigorieva, his estranged girlfriend. He froths and spits out curses and racist comments.
This is scary, mentally unstable and violent Gibson. If you are so inclined, you can search for his devilish rant on YouTube, but be warned, it’s really really bad stuff.
Speaking of devils, there’s a pedal boat tour of Lake Devil at Devil’s Den State Park at 7 p.m. today. Immerse yourself in one of the most utilized habitats on the park – Lake Devil! This rare guided pedal boat tour of Lake Devil explores the natural and cultural history of the park. Seating is limited; sign up at the visitor center.
