Leding v. Ramsey: The Fayettevillage Voice: Follow the Money | CF
Clipped Fresh — By Christopher Spencer on February 2, 2010 at 4:00 pmThe Fayettevillage Voice: Follow the Money.
COMMENT: Lessie at The Fayettevilliage Voice provides links to the campaign finance reports of Greg Leding and Bill Ramsey, both contestants for Rep. Lindsley Smith’s District 92 seat. Ramsey’s war chest outweighs Leding’s by almost 10-to-1, according to the filings. Much of Ramsey’s money comes from big business and political action committees and Lessie makes the point that this sets a political tone for the candidate.
Before I go further, a disclaimer: Greg Leding was my founding partner in Ozarks Unbound. We discussed at length what this meant to our political coverage and decided we wouldn’t touch his race editorially with a 10-foot pole. Just ignore the darn thing.
Well, things have changed.
I bought Leding’s interest in Ozarks Unbound because he needed time to focus on his campaign. OU is no longer connected with Leding, though he and I continue to be friends.
As a result, I feel more free to speak my mind about what promises to be a hard-fought, interesting and important election.
Leding is the first candidate I’ve endorsed in the ten years since I became a journalist. I know he’s the right person for the job because he has an intuitive understanding of people, deep empathy and the ability to accomplish things creatively.
He’s young and energetic and a perfect match for Fayetteville.
I’m not going to try and write objective stories about the campaign of either man, but I will try to give equal space to both candidates here at Ozarks Unbound as we move forward.

Greg is an excellent candidate to represent us.
He wants to get real results, not make sure business as usual goes unchallenged. He supports equality in employment and marriage and he understands the threat and opportunity brought by our energy crisis and climate change.
He knows that our kids need a good education, and that our workforce needs continuing education, too, to make our economy more resilient (green job training center, anyone?).
Greg will be a politician who embraces new solutions to both new and old problems. It’s what we need, because old ways of thinking and outdated technologies shouldn’t be relied upon just because they got us this far.
Check is in the mail Greg!
