Heather’s Songbook – “Intuition” by Feist

I love this whole album so very much. It reminds me of living in a friend’s cottage, my first foray into non-city living, and my first time living alone since the birth of my daughter.
Growing up in Arkansas, I’d seen my share of dirt roads and farm houses, but I’d never lived outside of the city limits until I moved to the cottage. The baby and I learned all about the farm we lived on and the surrounding woods. I found myself surprisingly in love with every bit of it.
I set out for the porch with a glass of wine one night after dinner. As I was walking out the door, I thought to turn on the stereo which had a mystery CD in it. By the end of the first song, I’d been won over.
After weeks of spending my nights learning to distinguish between the various sounds of the Arkansas woods, I realized locusts, frogs, and Feist were my very favorite.
I would put on the CD and open all the windows, lay in bed and enjoy the simplicity. I’d play it when I cooked dinner, when I worked, and every evening when I’d sit on the porch and watch the little one chase chickens around the yard.
To this day, I think of that summer breeze and that period of simple bliss every time I hear any of the songs. Intuition is my very favorite.

If this song doesn’t break your heart, you don’t have one. My wife told me about this fellow Canadian she had seen several times in Montreal and of course she was right; the stark beauty of this song verifies every rave. An acoustic version of Ms. Fiest performing this song solo was once on YouTube, and probably removed because of the gazillion page views from an awestruck viewer (me) that is probably the equivalent of e-stalking. Great, great choice, Heather.
