Gun Running Across Border Continues

Clipped Fresh — By Greg on June 20, 2009 at 11:44 am

Gunflow South is a Crisis for Two Nations

COMMENT: Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY17), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, believes something must be done about the flow of illegal arms from the US into Mexico.  “It’s simply unacceptable that the United States not only consumes the majority of the drugs flowing from Mexico but also arms the very cartels that contribute to the daily violence that is devastating Mexico,” says Engel. The House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee held a hearing Friday to review the GAO report it commissioned two years ago.  The report is the first such federal assessment of the crisis and points to discouraging conclusions sure to elevate debate as continued violence in Mexico threatens to spill across the border.
