Filing Day 2: Electoral Bugaloo – A Halter for Lincoln and more incumbents
Banner, Election 2010, News — By Christopher Spencer on March 2, 2010 at 11:40 pm
I wish I could say there was more action in local filing, but the only county office seeing a challenge today is County Assessor Lee Ann Kizzar who faces a contest in the general election against Republican Jeff Williams.
Also, Justice of the Peace Mary Ann Spear of Farmington is going to have a challenge in the Republican primary against Gail Biswell True of Farmington. For Republicans, May is your month to decide on a potential Justice of the Peace in that district.
I say “I wish” because (a) local politics are inherently dramatic and (b) elections force candidates to articulate their stances. A challenged candidate is a better candidate in my opinion.
On the federal level, Lt. Gov. Bill Halter officially threw his hat into the ring against incumbent U.S. Blanche Lincoln on the Democrat primary side. She faces a growing number of challenges from the Republican side, but that won’t play out until November.
On the state level, you have two Democratic non-incumbents with Mark Wilcox and Doris Tate running for the Secretary of State’s office.
This election feels really mid-term so far, aka timid, on the local and state levels. We shall see what tomorrow brings.
