Fayetteville fire chief field narrowed to three | Press Release

FINAL CANDIDATES RECOMMENDED BY FAYETTEVILLE FIRE CHIEF SEARCH COMMITTEE

The Fayetteville Fire Chief Selection Committee recommended David Dayringer, Christopher Neal, and John Neal as final candidates to be interviewed by Mayor Lioneld Jordan for the position of Fayetteville Fire Chief.

These final candidates will be interviewed by Mayor Jordan on separate days during the second week in December, and the public is encouraged to meet each of them in public receptions that will be sponsored by the International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 2866.

Christopher Neal is recently retired as the Director of the Oklahoma State University Fire Protection Publications and Executive Director for the International Fire Service Training Association. He was a Fire Chief at Stillwater, Oklahoma, and established the first refereed academic journal in the fire service.

John Neal has served 8 years as the Fire Chief at Harrison, Arkansas, beginning in 2001, and has served in the Harrison Fire Department for the past 20 years and is a native Arkansan who has worked hard to build strong relationships around the state on issues of public safety.

David Dayringer is a retired Deputy Chief and Fire Marshal of the Tulsa Fire Department, a 712 member Fire Department that serves a city of 380,000 citizens. He was also the Chief of Human Resource and Training, and he led the Tulsa Fire Departments initiatives to improve management and labor relations.

Christopher Neal will be interviewed on December 9, John Neal will be interviewed on December 10, and David Dayringer will be interviewed on December 11. During each of the three days for interviews, Mayor Lioneld Jordan will meet and interview each of the candidates, each candidate will have time to meet with Fayetteville Fire Department staff, and there will be a public reception for each candidate from 5:00-6:30 at the Fayetteville Public Library on the evening of their interview.

The Selection Committee consisted of Interim Fire Chief Kyle Curry, Police Chief Greg Tabor, Finance Director Paul Becker, Chief of Staff Don Marr, City Fire Department front line member Jeremy Jackson, and Communication Director Lindsley Smith. Thirty-one candidates applied for the position, and ten candidates received initial interviews. Each of the ten candidates were asked the same questions in interviews that lasted approximately two-hours each, and the final three candidates were selected out of the ten candidates previously interviewed.
