Description

Joining Effron White in this month's In-the-Round are 3 talented singer-songwriters from the ol' hometown: Mike Bewley, Carter Sampson, and Candy Lee. We look forward, as always, to seeing you there.

Mike Bewley is a singer/songwriter/guitarist, with one CD " Somewhere Past Sundown" one DVD,"Front Row" a Jones television production. Mike will be recording a second CD in 2010, as well as releasing a CD recorded with Birmingham musician, Dan McSweeney. Mike will be performing at several local venues this spring and summer!

Candy Lee is a "golden voiced" singer/songwriter who combines her love for folk, jazz, indie, and conscious music to create her own original style. Her goal is to facilitate awareness through meaningful lyrics, and to play a part in the conscious music revolution. She is currently playing in Fayetteville with her band, "Candy Lee and the Sweets." The band creates whimsical harmonies and earthy rhythms that blend beautifully.

Carter Sampson, who recently moved from Oklahoma City to Fayetteville, is quite a dynamic singer/songwriter.
Blessed by a musical legacy from a family that includes such talents as
Roy Orbison, Carter’s journey as a musician seems to have been
predestined. With a naturally independent free spirit, her empowering, relatable and appealing music has garnered
her a diverse and loyal fan base. Audiences and sound
engineers alike find that appearances can be deceiving as this diminutive
figure delivers a powerful and compelling performance. Carter has made
several appearances at the songwriter’s Mecca, The Blue Door, opening for
Patrice Pike, Christine Kane and Susan Gibson. She has also shared the
Blue Door stage with Ray Wylie Hubbard and Kevin Welch in the venue's
annual tribute to Woody Guthrie. Carter
also plays many outdoor festivals which have included Amnesty
International’s “Groovefest”, the Paseo Arts Festival, the Oklahoma City
Festival of the Arts and the Woody Guthrie Folk
Festival in Okemah, OK. She toured Texas and
Oklahoma with Bitch and Animal of Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records.
November 2008 has brought the release of her fourth album "Good for the
Meantime", recorded with Travis Linville at DirtyBird Studios and mastered
by Garrett Hines at Treelady studios.

ABOUT SONGS IN THE 'VILLE (if you haven't been):

Consider yourself invited to enjoy an evening hearing some tremendous songs written and performed by some exceptionally talented singer/songwriters. SONGS IN THE 'VILLE is a Songwriters In-the-Round Series held once a month at the UARK BALLROOM (formerly the UARK Bowl, across from Underwood Jewelers) , 644 W. Dickson St., Fayetteville, AR., 72701. The UARK is a special events venue, open only for special shows such as this. Effron White is your host, interviewing and performing with invited guest songwriters . A full bar is in operation during the show.

"In The Round" is a style of performance where songwriters set up in a circle, facing each other, in the middle of the room. The audience is seated, at tables, all around the performers, giving both the artists and the listeners a more intimate, up-close experience. It's also fun for the writers because it feels more like they are sitting around the living room, playing "with" friends, rather then playing "to" you from a stage. You get to hear the stories behind the songs and the interaction between the performers as they make their music.

We do ask that you keep your table volume to a minimum so that everyone can enjoy the show and so that the stories behind the songs can be heard.

Most of our writers have a variety of musical influences and appreciate many different kinds of music. However, they have a distinct style all their own when they write. You will hear inflections and variations on country, jazz, pop, blues, rock, folk and soul in much of our writers' original music. All of the music is performed acoustically. No drums or electric guitars. It is "listening music".

We hope you will not only enjoy the show, but discover artists in this mix that appeal to you. Their CDs will be available at each show for you to purchase and enjoy.
