(This week’s Songbook entries are provided by Elise Mitchell, president and CEO of Mitchell Communications Group in Fayetteville. She’s also tours by motorcycle and blogs about the good food and people she meets while traveling.)

Believe it or not, I am the same age as Madonna. I remember her very first song and album — “Borderline.” It came out the year I graduated college and had struck out on my own to claim my fortune. I loved her then. Love her now.

I remember thinking back then what a talent she was, and even though she has been somewhat controversial through the years, I can’t help but feel connected to her and supportive of her success. She is a strong woman who is not afraid to share her perspectives on the world. I don’t agree with many of them, but I admire her moxie.

This is one of my favorite Madonna songs. In fact, I turn to it many times when I am running long distances. Since I started running half marathons this year, I find myself alone, mile after mile, thinking and reflecting on life and creating new ideas for the future. When this song kicks in, I absolutely find a celestial energy surge through my body and I feel like I can run like the wind.

Well, and then there’s my undeniable love of clothes…and the movie “The Devil Wears Prada.” Sooooo, this song goes with all of that.
