Craig’s Songbook – “Good Arms vs. Bad Arms” by Frightened Rabbit
Craig's Songbook, Songbook — By Christopher Spencer on July 10, 2009 at 11:01 pm(This Songbook entry was submitted by Craig Nelson, a Fayetteville photographer and enjoyer of fine music.)
A new-to-me band, these Scottish lads have nailed my heart to the deck on several cuts from their album The Midnight Organ Fight. The best of the bunch is the sadly twanging Good Arms Vs. Bad Arms, a bonafide dose of cryin’-in-yer-beer awash in peddle steel guitar and misery.
Verse three is about as defiant as any could be: “I decided this decision some six months ago / So I’ll stick to my guns, but from now on it’s war / I am armed with the past, and the will, and a brick / I might not want you back, but I want to kill him”
Frightened Rabbit are not what I expected for a band hailing from Glasgow, Scotland. Their sound is eerily reminiscent of Son Volt, another band I’m a huge fan of.
Enjoy!

I LOVE Frightened Rabbit. LOVE them.
“Midnight Organ Fight” was one of best albums released last year by any band anywhere.
A few of my other favorite cuts are “Backwards Walk,” “Keep Yourself Warm” and “Old, Old Fashioned.”
Their simply brilliant.
Or *they are* simply brilliant, even.
Old Old Fashioned is the one I know the best. Really a great tune. I’ll check out the others, you mentioned.
After your mention, I checked out some of those. I liked “Keep Yourself Warm” very much. Thanks for the recommendations.
