Christopher’s Songbook (Halloween edition) – “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker Jr.
Christopher's Songbook, Songbook — By Christopher Spencer on October 28, 2009 at 1:56 AM(Christopher Spencer is the publisher of Ozarks Unbound. He has no idea what he will be wearing this Halloween for a costume, but is using this week’s Songbook to get into the scary spirit of the season)
Bustin’ makes me feel good.
You can’t hear that five-sentence lyric without thinking of this 1984 gem. It was a must-see film in my lunch room back in grade 4 as we sat around and acted out scenes from the movie. If I recall correctly, someone actually did get slimed with some fruit cup at one time at our table.
The cameos played throughout the video are hilarious and seem so out of place with current music video trends. Chevy Chase. Melissa Gilbert. Danny Devito. The late John Canday. All just randomly appear for a few seconds and are gone.
U.S. Sen Al Franken even drops by, a lifetime before he ever made it Washington.
Around a minute and a half in, a ghost removes the blanket from a sleeping woman. She’s dressed in some pretty tame lingerie, but in an age before “I Want Your Sex” this was kind of risque. The fact that Ray Parker Jr. seems to be hanging around just outside her window adds a voyeuristic level to the video I never caught till I was older.
A third movie in the franchise is supposedly going forward with the original cast members, set for a tentative 2012 release. I hope it can redeem the sins of Ghostbusters 2 which were considerable despite Bill Murray playing himself to great comedic effect.
Remember – There is no Dana, only Zul.

A third Ghostbusters? Wow – I wonder if they can work zombies into it somehow… You can’t go wrong with zombies these days. Or Al Franken.
Totally. A zombie Al Franken would push such a movie into at least the 3 or 4 star category. Zombies are a must.
You know the second one didn’t appeal to me mainly because of that painting premise. The haunted painting? I don’t know if you remember it, but that coupled with Dana’s new baby and Vigo the possessed art curator. It just didn’t have any of the charms of the original.
