Board and committee openings in Fayetteville – Deadline Sept. 3 | Community Announcement

It’s time for another round of board and committee appointments in Fayetteville.

This is often the gateway to more civic involvement, so consider joining and contributing if a board or committee strikes your fancy. Just be sure and get your application in before 5 p.m. Sept. 3.

CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE BOARD AND COMMITTEE OPENINGS


Board of Adjustments

  • One Unexpired Term Ending 03/31/11

Date Formed: The Board of Adjustments was established by Ordinance No. 1747 on June 29, 1970 and then revised by ordinance No. 4099 on June 16, 1998.

Purpose: The purpose of the board is to hear and decide appeals where it is alleged there is error or ambiguity in any order, requirement, decision, interpretation, or determination made by the City Planner in the enforcement of Zoning Chapter 160-164.

Meeting time: Regular meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 3:45 p.m. in the City Administration Building.


    Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals

    • Three Unexpired Terms Ending 03/31/15
    • Two Unexpired Alternate Member Terms Ending 03/31/11

    Date Formed: The Housing Board of Adjustments and Appeals was created by Ordinance No. 2251 on July 6, 1976. It was later referred to as the Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals in Ordinance No. 4044.

    Purpose: The purpose of this board is to hear and to act upon appeals regarding decisions made by the Building Inspector/Superintendent.  The Board also hears appeals regarding construction materials to be used in new building construction and development.  In addition, the Board hears appeals regarding enforcement of the minimum housing standards for existing structures as specified in the Standard Building Codes.

    Meeting time: The Board does not meet on a regular basis, as the requests forwarded to this Board are infrequent. Members are telephoned a week in advance of the meeting.

    Environmental Action Committee

    • One Unexpired Term Ending 12/31/12

    Date Formed: The Environmental Concerns Committee was created by City Ordinance 3922 on September 5, 1995. The Committee was revised by Ordinance 4462 on February 4, 2003. The name of the committee was changed on July 21, 2009 to Environmental Action Committee by Ordinance 5260.

    Purpose: The purpose of the Committee is to address environmental concerns, promote a safe and healthy environment, and maintain the natural beauty of the environment within the city. The Committee shall make recommendations to other city committees and to the City Council on matters concerning the environment.

    Meeting Time: Regular meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in Room 111 of the City Administration Building.

    Tree and Landscape Advisory Committee

    • One Unexpired Utility Representative Term Ending 12/31/11
    • One Unexpired Service Organization Unexpired Term Ending 12/31/11
    • One Unexpired Land Development Unexpired Term Ending 12/31/11
    • One Unexpired Community/Citizens-at-Large Term Ending 12/31/10

    Date Formed: The Tree and Landscape Advisory Committee was created by Ordinance No. 3699 on April 20, 1993.  On June 16, 1998, Ordinance No. 4099 was created to redefine the composition, powers and duties of the committee.

    Purpose: The purpose of the committee is to assist in dissemination of news and information regarding the protection, maintenance, removal, and planting of trees; to advise and consult on issues pertaining to the Tree Protection Ordinance; to determine the City’s needs in connection with trees; and to pursue the establishment of a comprehensive Fayetteville Street Tree Plan.

    Meeting Time: Regular meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in Room 111 in the City Administration Building.
