The Arkansas Territory was created by an act of Congress and signed into law on this day in 1819 by President James Monroe. The act split Arkansas from the Missouri Territory, creating the northern boundary of Arkansas and the line of Missouri Compromise.
A timely tidbit from Fayetteville History:

Remember Oklahoma, you used to be part of us. Keep that in mind the next time your attorney general sues us for allegedly polluting your watershed. And Texas, you weren’t so big back in the day.
Can’t we all just get along?
- Speaking of getting along, there was a forum between the two candidates for State Representative seat #92, Greg Leding and Bill Ramsey, today at the UA Law School. No word yet on how it went, but I’ll be interested in hearing a blow-by-blow once available. [Disclaimer: Greg Leding was a founding member of Ozarks Unbound and we support his candidacy for office so expect only opinion in this race, not news. We are not unbiased.]
- The University of Arkansas Concert Band and Wind Symphony March Concert begins at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Walton Arts Center. The Concert Band is directed by Jeremy Pratchard. This is a concert group consisting of 50-60 winds and percussionists who perform quality wind ensemble literature during the spring semester each year. The Wind Symphony is directed by W. Dale Warren. This is a select group of 50-60 serious musicians who concentrate on the finest in band literature during the fall and spring semesters each school year.
